Hydrodatalab (hydrodatalab.com) tracks results and training for sprint canoe and kayak clubs. Many of the athletes are children, so we collect as little as we can, keep it private, and delete it when asked.

What we collect

  • Race results — names, clubs, events, times and placings, taken from publicly published regatta results.
  • Accounts — for coaches and athletes who sign in: email address, name, role and team.
  • Connected watch activities — only if a paddler or parent connects a watch through a team link. We receive paddling activities (kayaking, canoeing, rowing, stand-up paddling): date and time, GPS track, distance, speed, duration, heart rate, stroke rate, the device name, and the original activity file. Runs, rides, walks and every other activity type are discarded on arrival and never stored. We do not receive sleep, health, wellness or location data outside recorded paddles.

How watch data reaches us

Watch activities come through intervals.icu, a training service the athlete's watch already syncs to (Garmin, Coros, Polar, Suunto, or Apple Watch via an iPhone app). The athlete or parent approves Hydrodatalab on intervals.icu with read-only access to completed activities. We cannot change anything in their intervals.icu or watch account. The access is revocable at any time from intervals.icu (Settings → Apps), which immediately stops new activities reaching us.

How we use it

Only to show the athlete and their coaches training and racing analysis: splits, personal bests, pacing, stroke rate and progress over time. Watch data is visible to the athlete's own team coaches and site administrators, not to the public. We do not sell data, show advertising, or share it with anyone else, and we do not use it to train AI models.

Children

For athletes under 13, a parent or guardian must create the intervals.icu account and approve the connection. By connecting, the parent consents to the collection described here. A parent can ask to see or delete their child's data at any time.

How we protect it

  • Access tokens are stored encrypted, and activity files are kept in private storage with no public link.
  • Watch data is readable only by the server, never directly by a browser.
  • Data is hosted with Supabase and Vercel in the United States.

Keeping and deleting data

Watch activities are kept while the connection is active so progress can be tracked across seasons. Email brmccollum@gmail.com to have a connection and all its activities and files deleted; we will do it within 30 days and revoke our access on intervals.icu. An activity deleted on intervals.icu is marked deleted here as well. Public regatta results are a historical record and stay, but names can be corrected on request.
